About us

Dear readers!

Here is the first issue of the new journal "Demographic Review". We consider the establishment of the journal an important event in the life of our professional community, as well as of the entire community of social scientists.

Demographic reality is a part of social reality, which is very important for all modern societies. Like all social processes, demographic processes are very complex. Understanding their determinants and consequences, the directions of their changes and the possible impacts on them requires the constant hard work of researchers who are eager to escape the superficial notions of common sense and to reveal the underlying, fundamental laws of demographic development.

Such work involves the efforts of many researchers and research teams, the continuous exchange of views and information between them, and the discussion of controversial questions. For all that a joint platform is required. We hope that our journal will become such a platform.

The thematic research range that we would like to present in our magazine is quite broad. First of all, it is demographic processes themselves: population reproduction, fertility, mortality, family formation, internal and international migration. But of no less importance are the bordering interaction areas of demography and other branches of social knowledge that have become an object of the study of "double" scientific disciplines: economic, social, medical, historical, mathematical demography, population geography, etc. This list will never be final.

The journal intends to pay great attention to demographic theory and methodology, improving methods of demographic analysis and forecasting, scientific approaches to population policy and evaluation of its results.

The journal will also publish regular analyses of the latest demographic trends in Russia, foreign countries and the whole world.

We expect to see the papers of researchers from different Russian and foreign scientific centers on the pages of the "Demographic Review". We want to make a good journal and this can only be done together.

And finally, we hope to find an interested reader who cares about the demographic problems of the country and the world. We hope, dear readers, for your response and fruitful dialogue with you.
