Economic and social implications of the demographic transition (translation from English)
Abstract
The paper deals with the way demographic transitions everywhere have proven themselves to be an important source of social and economic change. The paper has two parts. In the first one, the different ways in which change takes place over the medium and long run are assessed. Age structure, migration, reproductive efficiency and familial strategies, and adult health are all ways in which the transformational effects of demographic change are felt. In the second part of the paper the way the rate of change of vital rates conditions these beneficial effects in different areas of the world is discussed.
