Social and philosophical problems of demography. Round table of the journal "Problems of Philosophy" (1974)
Abstract
A reprint of the transcript from the journal "Problems of Philosophy" of the Round table discussion devoted to social and philosophical problems of demography which took place on May 7-8, 1974. 1974 having been declared World Population Year by the General Assembly of the UN, a World Population Conference was held in Bucharest in August 1974. On the whole, the 1970s were an important step, in some cases even a turning point, in the evolution of the world’s main demographic processes as well as in the development of world demographic thought. The Round table discussion give an idea of the level of understanding of the demographic reality, the main demographic trends and their driving forces by the Soviet science of that time. It allows us to judge as to the correlation between objective research and 'an ideological' component in the views of the Round table participants. The interdisciplinary discussion was attended by demographers, philosophers, sociologists, economists, anthropologists, biologists and lawyers.
