Abstract

The review analyzes a monograph co-written by numerous authors of the Department of Historical Demography of the Institute for History of the Siberian Branch of the RAS and edited by V. Isupov. The monograph shows how the systemic changes in the 100-year period that caused radical social and economic changes in society affected demographic processes and their results – in the dynamics of the size and composition of the population in one of the largest Russian regions. The book examines a wide range of problems such as reproduction, changes in the population’s age and ethnic structure, migration and changes in living arrangements. Particular emphasis is placed on the impact of the socio-political cataclysms of the twentieth century on all types of population movement and their features in Western Siberia.
